Don’t miss the Closing Session!

The General Assembly reconvenes its general meeting of IFLA members at the Closing Session in Lambrakis Hall on Thursday, 29 August from 16:00–18:00 (GMT+3). The entire session will be live streamed.

The Closing Session will begin with what’s sure to be an energizing and inspiring address by President Glòria Pérez-Salmerón.  Hear about where the motors of change have taken her in the last year (12 countries!) and the great strides and accomplishments made on behalf of all IFLA Members—and the emerging united global library field.

Next comes the presentation of IFLA’s Honours and Premier Awards and Professional Awards (Best IFLA Poster, Dynamic Unit Impact Award). These awards are huge achievements for recipients and IFLA is proud to see them go to the best of the best from the global library community.  A full list of award winners will be posted in a separate news piece at the session’s conclusion.

And every two years the Closing Session is a time to witness the moment when two IFLA Presidencies and Governing Boards come full circle.  This year is such a time.

A new President, President-elect and Governing Board will all officially commence their duties at the end of IFLA WLIC 2019. Glòria Pérez-Salmerón will make her final address as IFLA President and Christine Mackenzie will make her first.  And as one Governing Board term comes to a close, another one is just beginning.

After the thanks to the outgoing Governing Board and the introduction of the new Governing Board comes one of the most anticipated parts of this year’s WLIC: the official announcement of the WLIC 2021 location!

Next up is a multimedia look back at our busy week in Athens, plus a look forward to joining us at WLIC 2020 in Dublin, Ireland. Next year’s theme of “Inspire, Engage, Enable, Connect” invites the global Library and Information Science community to facilitate the exchange of experience and best practice between local, regional and international members of the profession.

As the session, and the long week, nears its end, delegates get a chance to hear incoming President Christine Mackenzie make her first address to the Federation—closing out the Congress on a high note.
