The Hellenic American Educational Foundation is a non-profit educational institution, established in 1925, that operates two schools – Athens College and Psychiko College with a total number of about 3.500 students.  Each school has an elementary school, a junior high and a high school. Psychiko College also runs an I. B. Program. The institution also has a kindergarten and various other educational programs.

The mission of the Hellenic-American Educational Foundation is to provide, by international standards, the highest quality education and to cultivate in its students those habits of mind, body, and spirit necessary for responsible citizenship in Greece and the world; moral courage, intellectual discipline, compassion, and an unswerving devotion to justice, truth and social responsibility.

The Athens College – Psychico College Library is the oldest active school library in Greece. Its first books were purchased in 1930. As of 1964, the Library is housed in its own building, approximately 1000 sq. meters in size, on the Hellenic-American Educational Foundation’s Psychico campus. It serves the students (7th to 12th grades), the faculty and the alumni of both schools,

Its collection includes approximately 70,000 books, 600 magazine titles, subscriptions to databases, as well as many CDs, DVDs and other items. The reading room has study spaces and carrels that can accommodate approximately 200 persons and offers the use of 45 computers. To support student research projects the Library’s facilities also include four seminar rooms that are equipped with a total of 36 computers, 60 laptops and special equipment for audiovisual projections.

The Library is a lending library for students, staff and alumni of Athens College and Psychico College.  It is open to the general public as a reading library.  All users have access to photocopy facilities and printers.

The Library has a strong program in information literacy. Through lessons in information literacy as well as the assignment of project work, students are taught the process of research, evaluation and utilization of information, and delivery of a final “product.” Information literacy provides them with the necessary skills and critical thinking for their higher education studies in Greece, in Europe and in the United States. The Library is staffed with 11 librarians.

The Library of the J.M. Carras” Kindergarten Library was established in 2014, has a collection of 5.000 volumes in a lovely space and offers many educational programs.  It is located in the same campus as the Athens College – Psychico library and one could combine both libraries during the visit.
