The Central Library of the City of Athens is one of the oldest libraries in Greece. It was founded in 1835 by the mayor Anargyros Petrakis and today is housed in a traditional building at 2 Domokou Street at Larissis Station. The collection of the library consists of 65,000 titles of various subject books, including rare editorial material, a newspaper archive from 1852 to 1999, a collection of 900 journal titles from 1849 to the present, an archive from 1833 to 2007, a rich book collection and photographic material related to the history of the city of Athens.
