Come to the Cultural Evening!

This year’s IFLA WLIC takes delegates on a wonderful adventure. Exciting sessions, workshops, library visits, endless networking opportunities and on top of that – a Cultural evening located in one of the most prominent landmarks in the city of Athens.

Prepare yourself for the evening of 27 August: you’ll be taken on a journey through stunning gardens with indigenous Mediterranean plants and a 360° panorama view of the city!

This not-to-be-missed event will take place at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre (SNFCC)  located in Kallithea neighbourhood, which literally means “beautiful view”. The lush gardens and a labyrinth form the green roof of the Opera house and the National Library and they are just a few steps away from the lighthouse.

Bus transportation will be provided from Megaron to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center. Buses start departing at 18:15.

Participants will be welcomed at the SNFCC by dancers from the The Lykeion ton Hellenidon (Lyceum Club of Greek Women) dressed in traditional regional costumes. Gates will open at 18:45 and catering will start at 19:00. From 20:00 – 21:00, cultural performances will take place. Traditional and popular Greek music will be performed live by the famous group Estoudiantina. From 21:00 – 23:00 there will be Greek Folk Dancing by the The Lykeion ton Hellenidon, followed by more music and dance with a DJ.

Bus shuttles will be available to return from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center to the hotels in the city center. Departures start at 21:00 and continue every 15 minutes until 23:30.

During the evening the SNFCC Store will be open, offering a wide range of products and gifts. Handmade creations, unique items by Greek designers, books, objects inspired by the SNFCC, the Stavros Niarchos Park, the Greek National Opera and the National Library of Greece are just a few of the products available.

The whole venue restores the connections between the city and the sea, as the spectacular views from the lighthouse stretch south over the Saronic Gulf and north to the Acropolis. Enjoy the Cultural Evening and see how this concept perfectly fits into one of the main IFLA’s values: building energising and fruitful connections between the librarians of the world.

IFLA is grateful to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation for providing us not only with such a fantastic space, but generously sponsoring the entire Cultural evening which will be a unique experience of vibrant Greek culture and rich traditional cuisine.

The event promises to be an unforgettable evening!
