Call for Papers — Open Sessions
Religions: Libraries and Dialogue Special Interest Group
- 21 December 2018, 18:00
Theme: "Document religious conflicts without sustaining resentment"
Translation: [Français] [Deutsch]
In line with the theme of the next World Library and Information Congress, “Libraries: Dialogue for Change”, the Religions: Libraries and Dialogue Special Interest Group (Relindial) is seeking proposals for papers to be presented at the IFLA WLIC in Athens, on the theme: “Document religious conflicts without sustaining resentment”
Religious conflicts are, unfortunately, an important aspect of human history. In many parts of the world, they have been and still are being used or even instrumentalized by States or groups for memorial or sometimes identity purposes.
Libraries have an essential role to play in this area. They must preserve and transmit this part of the collective memory. However, as actors in the life of the city, they are not intended to maintain anger and resentment.
- How do libraries of all types document recent or past religious conflicts? Are they under pressure in this area from the authorities or pressure groups?
- How do libraries integrate the conflict dimension and the relationship to the other into the broader issue of religious heritage?
- How do libraries address these issues in a changing religious context? Especially in the context of interreligious dialogue initiatives?
- How do libraries integrate these questions into cataloguing or semantic web issues?
All colleagues and professionals who wish to share some of their experiences among the different aspects listed above are invited to send their proposals before 18 February 2019 the extended deadline 25 February 2019.
The session will last two hours during which debates and exchanges of information can be organized.
Proposals must be sent to:
